Assistant Professorship (Tenure Track) in „Constructive Design of Traffic Infrastructure"

in form of an initially fixed-term (6 years) fulltime (40h per week) tenure track position starting from 1st June 2019. The candidate and TU Wien can agree upon a tenure evaluation, which when positive, opens the possibility to change the position to Associate Professor with an unlimited contract. TU Wien is among the most successful technical universities in Europe and is Austria’s largest scientific technical research and educational institution. The Faculty of Civil Engineering, one of the eight faculties at TU Wien, has an excellent reputation and plays an active role in national and international research. The Faculty of Civil Engineering offers excellent working conditions in an attractive research environment in an city with exceptional quality of life. The tenure-track position is affiliated to the Institute of Transportation. Duties include research and teaching in the field of “Constructive Design of Traffic Infrastructure”.
Aufgaben
We seek a candidate that holds a PhD in Civil Engineering with a strong focus on road pavement design. Applicants with background in multiscale modelling of bituminous materials and numerical design of flexible and rigid pavement structures of roads and airfields are of particular interest. The candidate should show dedication to develop interdisciplinary research projects in the field of constructive design of traffic infrastructure, be stimulated by engineering-motivated problems, be willing to seek grants and industrial partnerships, show passion for mentoring Master and PhD students and participate in curriculum in the Civil Engineering Department.

Tasks
Research
• Strengthen and enrich the current research activities in multiscale modelling of bituminous materials, sustainability and durability of pavement construction materials, performance-based testing and modelling of road pavement materials as well as in the development of empirical-mechanistic design methods and the development of maintenance strategies for land traffic infrastructure based on non-destructive testing methods and numerical models
• Contribute to the emergent research field of chemo-physical characterization of bitumen and its constituents to describe microstructural effects related to binder ageing with regards to the recycling of pavement materials
• Support and develop externally funded research program
• Maintain a strong publication record

Teaching
The successful candidate will teach road and airfield pavement design in classes and lab courses of the Bachelor curricula Civil Engineering and Master curricula Civil Engineering Science and advise Master and PhD students. It is emphasized that currently the teaching in the Bachelor curriculum is in German language requiring appropriate language skills.

Leadership & Administration
Contribute leadership and innovative thinking toward excellent programs and projects within the department and the university.
Anforderungen
Qualification Requirements
• University Master and Doctoral degree or equivalent and proficiency in German and English
• Proven expertise in road and airfield pavement design as well as in multiscale modelling of pavement materials, outstanding achievements and potential in research, excellent publication record, international reputation
• Experience in academic teaching (classes) and supervising or co-supervising of academic theses
• Experience in designing and participating in research projects, as well as the willingness and ability to lead research groups, willingness to acquire third-party funding
• Scientific activity outside TU Wien, preferentially outside Austria

The employment starts as University Assistant with a minimum salary of EUR 3.711,10 gross (14x per year) according to the collective bargaining agreement for a PostDoc. After signing the qualification agreement, the employment is as Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of EUR 4.388,70 (14x per year).
